40 hours per week; 43 weeks per year; Benefits eligible

Starting pay is between $18.24-$19.24 per hour depending on Michigan Childcare Licensing Program Director status

POSITION SUMMARY

The CIS After School Coordinator (ASC) is responsible for implementing the CIS After School Program funded by Michigan Department of Education (21st Century Community Learning Centers) and assures that the program is delivered in accordance with the expectations and requirements of the grant, child care licensing, school district policies and procedures and agreements with the Michigan Department of Education Out-of-School Time Standards and Youth Program Quality Assessment Standards. 

 

The position manages and supervises youth development coaches, enrichment and ancillary community resource providers, and interns and volunteers to achieve the program’s purpose and individual student goals and objectives.  The position is responsible for assuring the integration of school day learning objectives and strategies within the after school program. 

 

The ASC is among the primary representatives of Communities In Schools of Kalamazoo within their building and is responsible for assuring effective relationships with all building stakeholders---principal, teachers, support staff, parents/guardians, etc.  The ASC collaborates with other CIS staff, the Site Coordinator, Site Team, and school staff to ensure After School Program students receive appropriate Tier I (school-wide) and Tier II (individual student) services. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, child development/child psychology, recreation, social work, youth development, community organization or another field relevant to work with students during out-of-school time required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with children, adolescents and families.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license, availability of a vehicle and vehicle insurance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills, to interact effectively with school staff, parents, students, volunteers, service providers and other team members. Ability to establish credibility with school personnel.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, integrity, and knowledge of organizational policies and procedures and to effectively convey such information to others.
  • Well-developed knowledge base of the needs/issues of children and families.
  • Appreciation and embracement of diversity and inclusiveness.
  • Meet Michigan Department of Health and Human Services child care licensing requirements as a school-age Program Director or the capacity and willingness to meet this qualification within one year. Below are two ways to determine if you meet Program Director requirements.
  1. Bachelor’s degree in child-related field OR
  2. Bachelor’s degree in any area PLUS one of the following:
    1. 12 semester hours in child-related field + 720 hours of experience OR
    2. 6 semester hours in child-related field + 2,880 hours of experience

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Teacher license in elementary or middle school education or MiSAYD certification.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Supervisory and/or management experience.
